Golf Tech to Lower your Handicap | The Companionist
I've been looking for ways to improve my swing and get my handicap down into the single figures before winter. We all love a bit of digital assistance so I thought what better excuse to try out the latest in digital golf tracking systems; Game Golf.
When hearing about the Game Golf device, I thought ‘what better way to improve my game than to learn about which areas I need to improve upon by looking at actual data, instead of just guessing’. The idea of gaining accurate information about almost every area of my game by syncing real-time shot data to my phone was a totally new concept and one that would hopefully take my game to the next level and help me break 80 more often.
After appreciating the quality of the device and tags, I went about setting up my clubs with the cool red tabs and syncing the device with my iPhone. The Game Golf app allowed for an enjoyable experience when setting up an account and syncing my device to my phone via Bluetooth. I was then even able to select which specific brand/model of clubs I use and store that information on the app. I was stoked to actually get on the course and give this thing a go!
"I FOUND OUT THINGS THAT I’VE PICKED UP ON – MY 8 IRON NORMALLY LANDS LEFT OF THE PIN, MY DRIVES ARE NORMALLY IN THE RIGHT-HAND SIDE OF THE FAIRWAY AND I TAKE WAY TOO MANY PUTTS COMPARED TO WHAT I SHOULD."
In the Field
Standing on the tee, I held my driver to the device on my waist and heard a beep/buzz which confirmed the successful recognition. I then hit my drive (into the right-hand rough!) and walked to my ball. Upon reaching my ball, I pulled out my 19-degree hybrid, held the club to the device on my waist, and received the (now satisfying) beep/buzz. I hit my ball and repeated the previous steps another few times until the ball was in the hole.
After the 1st hole, to confirm that everything was running as it should, I checked my phone and was delighted to see that all 5 of my shots were mapped precisely on a birds-eye view of the 1st hole, with my shot distances displayed next to each shot location. I put my phone back in my bag and finished the rest of my round, simply tagging my clubs before each shot.
To my amazement, at the end of my round, I was able to see the distance and direction of every shot on my round, whilst also reviewing my trends for each club. I found out things that I never would’ve picked up on before – my 8 iron normally lands left of the pin, my drives are normally in the right-hand side of the fairway and I take way too many putts compared to what I should. This data is absolute gold for reviewing which areas to focus on in my next round in order to improve my score. All this would help me massively in improving on my weaknesses and taking advantage of my strengths.
For anyone who is sick of guessing distances and shot trends, Game Golf is essential for learning the hard facts about your game. This is essential for improving and taking your game to the next level. Having this device and the ability to know my strengths and weaknesses so precisely, gives me a clear (and sometimes I feel unfair!) advantage over my fellow golfers.
